Late hire FAQs

Information for contract hire customers

What is Late Hire? ‘Late Hire’ was previously known as ‘Informal Extension’/'Extended Term', and this is how it will show in your Terms & Conditions. What does this mean? If your contract end date has passed and the vehicle hasn’t been collected yet, you are now in an extended term, also known as ‘Late Hire’.What do you mean by the term 'Late'? The ‘late’ means that the vehicle is late being returned, not that the payment is late. How is 'Late Hire' different to a reschedule/formal extension? Unlike with a contract reschedule, late hire does not commit you to keep the vehicle for a set period. How long can I stay in 'Late Hire'? You will remain in an extended term until you choose to either purchase your vehicle or return this to us (we reserve the right to request the return of your vehicle during this period).Does this affect my invoices and payments during this 'Late Hire' period? We’ll now invoice on the final working day of each month for that month. What's changed? Rather than charging in advance, the charge will be based on a daily rate, pro-rata your regular monthly rentals and these charges will show as 'Late Hire' on future invoices. What happens if I return my vehicle mid-month? If you return the vehicle mid-month you only get charged for the days you have the vehicle. When should I expect my invoices for 'Late Hire'? Invoices will be sent every month until the vehicle is purchased at market value (if the vehicle meets certain criteria) or returned. Why are my invoices different each month? Late Hire invoices will vary depending on the number of days in the month. What should I expect in my first invoice charge? Your first Late Hire payment will cover from your contract end date to the end of that month.
