Electric driving costs

What to expect for overall costs

When it comes to overall EV costs, you can expect to save more money over a vehicle that uses a traditional fuel-burning combustion engine. But how much? Whether you're charging at home or on the road, you'll need accurate figures for your monthly budget.

How to calculate costs for charging

Charging at home or work

The cost of EV charging at home depends on your electricity tariff in your region. An average electric car consumes 15 to 20 kWh per 100 km. So, if your rate for electricity at home is €0.25 and you drive an average of 15,000 km per year, then the cost of charging your car will be between €563 and €750 per year. Keep in mind that in most cases, charging at home is cheaper than at public points.

Comparing EV vs ICE costs

Is an electric vehicle cheaper or more expensive than a petrol or diesel car? When comparing costs it's important to look beyond just the purchase price and instead dive into the costs invloved in keeping a car running. This includes fuel, maintenance, insurance and depreciation.
