Facelift 2025

Europe's most successful electric model is undergoing a makeover. Both front and rear, the Model Y with the codename 'Juniper' adopts some styling cues from the Cybertruck, such as the continuous LED strip, creating a very modern look.

Usually, a car model receives a facelift after about four years. However, for the very popular Tesla Model Y, such an update seemed less urgent: the model was launched in 2020 and continued to sell like hotcakes. Finally, the updated versions of the mid-sized electric crossover will soon be produced in China and Berlin.

Modern look à la Cybertruck

Opinions on the Cybertruck vary, but few will argue that the facelifted Tesla Model Y looks much more modern, with its front and rear that clearly took inspiration from the 'big brother'. The continuous LED strip at the front connects the very pointed headlights and the bumper is completely new. At the rear, we see the same concept, with the license plate holder moving to the bumper. According to Tesla, the aerodynamics have improved, contributing to a greater driving range.

Interior of the Model 3

The Model Y and Model 3 are closely related in terms of technology. It is therefore not surprising that the "Juniper" undergoes the same evolution as the "Highland" (the codename of the upgraded 3). Here, too, you will find a continuous ambient lighting in the interior and upgraded materials. The front seats promise more comfort, and the rear seat can not only be lowered electrically but also raised again. There is a touchscreen between the front seats, allowing passengers in the back to play games or enjoy a movie.

Larger, stiffer, more comfortable

The Model Y grows by 4.6 centimeters in length, but the wheelbase and therefore the interior space remain the same. The body of the updated Model Y is also said to gain stiffness, which, along with the modified chassis, should provide more comfort and improved driving dynamics. The weight figures reveal that it puts on an additional 12 kg on the scale. Some of this is due to the additional sound insulation, so that the Tesla Model Y drives quieter than ever before.

Even more impressive performance

For now, only the Chinese specifications have been released. In China, the updated Tesla Model Y debuts as the Long Range AWD. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds faster than before. The range increases according to the Chinese CLTC cycle from 688 to 719 kilometers. The Standard Range RWD also achieves greater range - Tesla mentions 515 kilometers. Information about the batteries is not yet available, but we already know that the fast charging capability is being increased to 250 kW.

The first deliveries are expected in the spring of 2025. Prices and further specifications will be released in the near future
