From July 1, 2025, all motorists, including drivers of company cars, must actively ensure that their car’s tyres are suitable for the season. A new change in the Road Traffic Act means that it will be illegal to drive with overtly unsuitable tyres in winter conditions, for example, summer tires on snow-, ice-, or slush-covered roads.

**The driver is responsible ** It is the driver behind the wheel who bears the responsibility. If the tyres are deemed unsuitable by the police, it can cost 1,000 DKK in fines - per tyre. This also applies if the car belongs to a company, i.e., in the case of company car.

What should you do? Companies with a fleet of vans or sales vehicles should ensure that all vehicles are equipped with winter tyres, marked M+S, MS or M&S, during the winter period to be prepared for changes in weather. All-season tires with a snowflake symbol (3PMSF) can be used, but in heavy snowfall, these are often not recommended.

For trucks and vans over 3,500 kg, there is also an expectation of a tightening of the requirement for tread depth from 1 mm to 1.6 mm.

Clear recommendation – winter tyres in the winter season It is Ayvens’ recommendation that all company cars have winter tyres fitted during the winter season to ensure maximum driving safety and to avoid fines. Therefore, it is a good idea to get out early in the tyre change season, as there is often extra demand at garages.

If the company has vehicles that do not yet have a set of winter tyres, it is a good idea to order a set as soon as possible.

If you tyre garage sends a pre-booking for tyre change, we highly recommend that you accept this time, as it will be busy in the tyre garages the closer we get to winter and snow.

In short for businesses:
