When it comes to overall EV costs, you can expect to save more money over a vehicle that uses a traditional fuel-burning combustion engine. But how much? Whether you're charging at home or on the road, you'll need accurate figures for your monthly budget.

How to calculate costs for charging

Home charging

The cost of EV charging at home depends on your electricity tariff in your region. An average electric car consumes 15 to 20 kWh per 100 km. So, if your rate for electricity at home is €0.25 and you drive an average of 15,000 km per year, then the cost of charging your car will be between €563 and €750 per year. Keep in mind that in most cases, charging at home is cheaper than at public points.

Public charging

When charging on the road, you pay the rate determined by the charging station operator. In addition to a kWh price, the operator can also charge a starting rate and an incentive rate. In example on 'Find a charge location with Shell Recharge' you will find an overview of available charging stations in Europe with the price per kWh. (country specific)

Charging costs FAQs

Are electricity costs of home charging reimbursed? By using your charging keychain, we know exactly how much energy you use. The charging point stores this information. The electricity costs for charging the car are automatically reimbursed monthly.The charging costs haven't been settled on my energy bill. How is that possible? The business electricity costs for home charging are reimbursed but the energy supplier is not involved in this. This is why the charging settlement costs are not included on the energy bill.How do I reimburse charging costs? If you have used the charging card supplied by Ayvens you don’t need to request a cost reimbursement. If you have used a separate charging card, not supplied by Ayvens, you can reclaim these costs in My Ayvens. This is a similar process as requesting reimbursement for fuel.
