Role Overview: As Legal Counsel, you will provide specialist legal advice on consumer credit law and FCA regulations, ensuring compliance across the organization. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating regulatory challenges and supporting various business functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to consumer credit and regulatory queries from various business units.
Proactively identify and advise on potential consumer credit and compliance risks.
Draft instructions for external lawyers on consumer credit and regulatory matters as needed.
Support the regulated product lifecycle, including product development, distribution channels, customer documentation, and customer journeys.
Collaborate with business areas to ensure compliance of regulated agreements, documentation, processes, communications, and financial promotions with consumer credit law and FCA regulations.
Provide guidance on relationships with intermediaries, including brokers, dealers, and partners.
Contribute to the regulatory aspects of commercial agreements upon request from the Legal Team.
Assist the Complaints and Legal teams with customer complaints and claims as required.
Monitor changes in legislation or FCA rules regarding consumer credit and ensure implementation across relevant business areas.
Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of UK Consumer and Consumer Credit legislation.
Comprehensive understanding of the FCA regulatory regime applicable to regulated consumer credit businesses.
Strong ability to make risk-based recommendations and decisions.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice.
Proven ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships.
A keen interest in the broader commercial and market context.
Role Requirements:
Admitted to the role of solicitor with a valid practicing certificate issued by the SRA.
Specialist in consumer credit legislation and regulation.
Extensive knowledge and experience in consumer credit law and relevant FCA regulations (e.g., CONC).
Excellent communication skills, including face-to-face, telephone, email, and report writing.
Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively.
Proficient in IT literacy, particularly with Microsoft Word.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
High levels of professionalism and stakeholder management.
