The Digital & IT Division support Ayvens UK by providing effective and efficient technology capabilities that allow us to operate in a flexible, secure and sustainable way.

The Data department is responsible for ensuring high quality Data and Reporting services are delivered to the organisation by designing, implementing, monitoring and evolving robust, secure and cost-effective solutions. Incorporating Data Management, Operations, Storage, Engineering, Science, Analytics and Governance, the division ensures that technology data solutions align with the business objectives and support the overall strategic direction. The function sets policies, standards, governance and guidelines for all aspects of data, its accuracy, management and delivery, and implements these through resilient, secure and interoperable technology solutions.

Key Purpose

  • Perform Oracle database administrative duties across a variety of different O/S platforms.

  • Maintain a high level of availability of all databases as required by the Business.

  • Perform duties relating to these databases (including capacity planning, monitoring, patching, cloning) and servers (administration to ensure expected functionality).

  • Coordinates system performance monitoring and system updates.

  • Oversees the compliance to IT policies and security standards.

  • Support any internal or external auditing to ensure robustness of these key areas.

Key Accountabilities

  • Install, create and maintain all databases in line with Industry best practices.

  • Ensure that databases maintain acceptable levels of performance, integrity and security in line with agreed Organisational standards.

  • System monitoring and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner to ensure provision of services within SLA.

  • Perform Capacity planning, upgrades, migrations and patching of databases and servers.

  • Provide recommendations when required as to suitable design of databases.

  • Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security.

  • Work with the Business to provide database solutions as necessary.

  • Provide on-call support as required.

  • Set an example as a team player, respectful of others in the organisation and maintain a focus on overall business objectives, contributing towards a productive and healthy working environment.

  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality; housekeeping; and to ensure that personal behaviour and attitude reflects the essence of Organisation and its’ core values.

  • Ensure compliance with approved Organisation, statutory and regulatory policies/procedures.

Skills, Experience & Background

Competencies

  • Using a risk averse approach, create and remove databases and ensure completion of appropriate documentation, testing and rollout.
  • Ensure that all databases are maintained in line with departmental SLA’s and standards.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent experience.

  • Solid experience working within Solaris/Linux Administration & shell scripting, APEX.

  • Extensive experience in Oracle Database installation, administration and security.

  • Excellent understanding of Oracle High Availability and Failover (Dataguard, GRID).

  • Good working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager.

  • Solid foundation in sizing, capacity planning, backup, cloning and disaster recovery planning for multi-terabyte databases.

  • Thorough understanding of optimisation and performance tuning.

  • Excellent understanding of Oracle Objects (including PL/SQL, packages, procedures, functions and triggers etc).

  • Good understanding of Solaris O/S (ZFS and installation), Linux O/S, Solaris Zones, shell scripts.

  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office Tools.

  • Develops others by sharing own experience and expertise.

  • Significant experience in recent Oracle database versions.
