Inside the classroom: how Ayvens Bank supports financial literacy through Bank voor de Klas

3 min to readEngagement
Financial education is one of those life skills we all use, yet many of us had to learn it outside of school. Ayvens Bank, part of Ayvens Group, is dedicated to empowering people with practical financial skills, both in everyday life and through initiatives like Bank voor de Klas.

For Faten Zaghloul, Head of Marketing at Ayvens Bank, that gap has been a reason to act. Since 2018, she has volunteered as a guest teacher through Bank voor de Klas, an initiative by Dutch banks that brings professionals into classrooms to help students build practical money knowledge: from safe online behaviour to everyday budgeting basics.

“Financial education forms one of the basics for your foundation; it’s about safety, planning, and long-term confidence.”

A personal reason, and a professional one

Faten’s first year volunteering coincided with a big life change: she became a parent. It made the mission feel immediate.

“I became more aware… My son will be in those seats one day. And I hope somebody will teach him more about skills he will benefit from later in life.”

Her motivation is also rooted in her early career: she started out in CSR, and saw how quickly companies can contribute to positive change when they choose to.

What happens in a Bank voor de Klas session?

The format is designed to be accessible, even for volunteers who have never taught before. The session is built around a quiz-based game, with videos and questions adapted to different age groups. Students form teams, invent their team names, and compete in a fast-moving, playful format.

“They’re super competitive… it’s gamification of questions about money but made in a way that feels playful and fun.”

And that’s where the learning sticks: financial topics that can sound “dry” suddenly become concrete, relatable, and memorable.

Why starting early matters (especially today)

Faten’s view is simple: money skills should be part of learning how to manage your life. Just as planning skills and interpersonal skills.

Financial education is primarily impacted by how parents deal with finances. When financial education isn’t consistently taught in school, it depends heavily on what students learn at home, and that’s different for everyone.

“Not all parents are able to give it… so why not have it in the place where you already learn a lot of things, in schools?”

She also points to the modern reality many young people face: online influence, scams, and risky financial messaging that can appear persuasive long before someone is equipped to evaluate it.

How this connects to Ayvens Bank and the Ayvens Group story

At Ayvens Bank, supporting financial health starts with awareness. As Faten puts it: “Savings comes after awareness… understanding what comes in, what goes out, and planning from there.”

Bank voor de Klas brings that mindset to a younger generation, because financial habits form long before the age of 18.

“It doesn’t start when you’re 18… becoming financially aware begins much earlier.”

A small action. A bigger impact.

Each session reaches around 20–25 students, giving them practical tools they can use immediately. For Ayvens employees, it’s a simple but powerful way to contribute to financial confidence and safety in the community.

This initiative reflects Ayvens Group’s commitment to education, empowerment, and responsible decision making, building strong foundations, one classroom at a time. Because financial confidence isn’t just about aspirations. It’s also about staying safe, making informed choices, and being equipped for real life.
