2025 Fleet Sustainability Ranking by Industry
The second edition of Ayvens’ Fleet Sustainability Ranking by Industry is here! This research covers 29 European countries and evaluates international industry fleets based on four criteria: the share of diesel vehicles, the share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the share of hybrids and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and the level of CO2 emissions for new passenger vehicles.
Transitioning to low and zero-emission vehicles is one of the most effective strategies for companies to reduce CO2 emissions. With road transport accounting for approximately a quarter of carbon dioxide emissions in the European Union, addressing these emissions is crucial. This year's industry ranking report and individual industry benchmarks provide insights into how swiftly industries are adopting low and zero-emission vehicles and the resulting decrease in carbon emissions.

Key insights from the ranking
The construction industry has made remarkable strides in sustainability, securing the second position in this year's ranking. With a significant reduction of new diesel vehicles in fleet. In 2022, 35% of new vehicles leased in the construction industry were diesel, compared to just 12% in 2024. Additionally, the construction industry has seen the largest increase in the share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with 39% of new vehicles in 2024 being BEVs.
The energy & chemical industry has also shown impressive progress, ranking third in the 2025 sustainability ranking. This sector has achieved the largest reduction in CO2 emissions, with a 30% decrease since 2022. The energy & chemical industry has also increased its share of BEVs and hybrids, contributing to its strong performance in the rankings.
The technology industry, which ranks fourth, has made significant advancements in reducing its carbon footprint. This sector has decreased the share of new diesel and petrol vehicles in its fleet and has more than doubled the share of BEVs over the past two years.
While all industries are reducing the share of diesel vehicles in their fleets, the pace of change varies considerably. The international financial & professional services industry fleets boast the lowest share of new diesel vehicles in 2024, however this change is not seen consistently across all countries. For financial & professional service fleets in Switzerland, Greece and the Czech Republic, there has been an increase in the share of new diesel vehicles in fleet in 2024 compared to 2022. The largest increase is in the Czech Republic going from 5% of new vehicles being diesel in 2022 to 26% in 2024.
