In Luxembourg, the DS N°8 is rather rare, despite its many advantages and an original design that brings a breath of fresh air to a premium segment that is often quite conservative. DS continues to play the daring card and this time signs an electric SUV coupé promising an impressive WLTP range of 750, kilometres!

Eccentricity as a signature

The DS N°8 certainly does not go unnoticed thanks to its unique design. Its sculpted front, angular lines at the front and rear, combined with clean surfaces and a slender silhouette, give it a strong personality.

It could be compared to the Polestar 4, but where the Polestar plays the card of the Scandinavian design, sleek and sporty, the DS relies more on an art deco and refined style, bordering on majestic!

The engineers have worked a lot on aerodynamics: faired underbody, fins to guide air, closed rims and controlled air intakes. The result? A drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.24, a great performance!

With a 97 kWh battery, it promises about 750 kilometres of range according to the WLTP cycle and about 500 kilometres on the highway.

Seat Comfort and Suspension

Sit behind the wheel and you'll enjoy the comfort of the perfectly designed seats and soft-touch materials. The dashboard is neat, with almost handcrafted details and discreet ambient lighting that create a calming and elegant atmosphere.

The suspension prioritises comfort, even if the car moves a little in fast corners.

The soundproofing, meanwhile, is remarkable.

A few small weaknesses though: some storage and buttons give a less high-end impression. Rear space isn't its strong : passengers won't really be able to stretch their legs and the bench is a bit too low and short to compete with a luxury sedan. On the other hand, the volume of the trunk is appreciable.

Average electrical performance

The DS N°8 FWD Long Range announces a WLTP consumption of less than 16 kWh/100 km, which seems realistic to on secondary roads. On the highway, it consumes as much fuel as other electric SUVs, despite its aerodynamics. The energy recovery is done automatically with the adaptive cruise control or manually via paddles on the steering wheel.

The car is equipped with a heat pump and a navigation system optimised for electric vehicles. As an option, a more powerful on-board charger (22 kW at instead of 11). Fast charging is limited to 160 kW, which is not exceptional.

However, Stellantis can be commended for choosing batteries made in France by ACC, as well as the electric motor.

Conclusion

The DS N°8 is distinguished by a luxurious interior trim and generous standard equipment. It also benefits from a local manufacturing, which is an asset. On the other hand, the space in the rear remains disappointing, some details give the impression of lower quality and the fast charging speed is limited.
