The BMW iX1 eDrive20 has been named 2026 Fleet Car of the Year at the 22nd edition of the Fleet Car Awards, organised by Ayvens. This year’s edition marked a historic milestone, with 100% electric vehicles winning every category, reflecting the growing maturity of electric mobility and its increasing relevance in corporate vehicle procurement decisions. The event also saw the introduction of the new Rising Star Award, presented to the BYD Sealion 7.

Electrification took centre stage at the 22nd Fleet Car Awards, an initiative that recognises the models that best meet the needs of businesses and professional drivers. Among the 12 vehicles evaluated, the BMW iX1 eDrive20 stood out for its balanced combination of driving experience, comfort, perceived quality and competitive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), securing the overall 2026 Fleet Car of the Year title.

This year’s edition brought together 13 representatives from national and multinational companies, collectively managing a fleet of more than 6,000 vehicles and covering over 150 million kilometres per year. The jury assessed four market segments under real-world driving conditions, replicating the criteria that typically influence fleet acquisition and renewal decisions.

In the City Car category, the Peugeot E-208 secured first place, ahead of the Toyota Yaris and Seat Ibiza. The winning model impressed jurors with its material quality, driving position and overall user experience.

In the Small SUV category, the Volvo EX30 emerged as the winner, outperforming the Volkswagen Taigo and Dacia Duster. Its exterior design, cabin refinement and driving position were the attributes most appreciated by the jury.

In the Compact Family Car category, the BMW iX1 claimed victory over the Mercedes-Benz A 250e and the Renault Symbioz. The model excelled in material quality, exterior design and the comfort of both front and rear seats, characteristics that also contributed to its selection as 2026 Fleet Car of the Year.

Meanwhile, in the Mid-Size Family Car segment, the Tesla Model Y Long Range took first place, ahead of the BMW i4 eDrive40 and the Cupra Terramar e-Hybrid Special. Jurors particularly valued the model’s visibility, accessibility to seating and luggage space, and the intuitiveness of its infotainment and connectivity systems.

The 2026 edition also marked the launch of the Rising Star Award, a new distinction designed to recognise vehicles that stand out through innovation, market positioning and potential relevance to the corporate sector. The inaugural award was presented to the BYD Sealion 7, following a driving experience between Lisbon and Montemor-o-Novo. Other shortlisted models included the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Toyota bZ4X 74, Zeekr 7GT, Jaecoo 7 PHEV and Volvo EX60. Through this new category, Ayvens aims to highlight distinctive vehicle propositions that may influence future fleet renewal decisions.

Just a few years ago, we were discussing whether electric vehicles could be a viable alternative for corporate fleets. Today, the Fleet Car Awards reveal a very different reality: fully electric vehicles lead across all segments evaluated by business users themselves. This result demonstrates the progress of technology, the breadth of available offerings and the ability of these solutions to meet the practical needs of companies. The introduction of the Rising Star Award also reinforces our commitment to monitoring innovation within the industry and supporting customers in the transition towards increasingly efficient and sustainable mobility

Vehicle assessments were based on real-world driving tests, complemented by an online questionnaire in which jurors evaluated a range of vehicle characteristics. The methodology combined a qualitative assessment with a quantitative analysis based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), which accounted for 50% of the final score.

The vehicle shortlist also took into account a range of market indicators, including TCO, Ayvens order volumes and sales figures reported by ACAP (Portuguese Automobile Association), ensuring that the vehicles in competition reflected both corporate customer preferences and the key economic factors influencing fleet management.

The awards ceremony took place at Forte da Crismina, in Guincho, bringing together representatives from Ayvens, participating automotive brands and members of the judging panel. Over the course of 22 editions, the Fleet Car Awards have tracked the evolution of the Portuguese automotive market and established themselves as a benchmark for identifying mobility solutions that best meet the needs of businesses.
